The Tahoe Knight Monsters have signed defenseman Craig McCabe to an ECHL contract. McCabe, 27, has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 27 games this season in the SPHL with the Huntsville Havoc. The Webster, NY, native is in his third season with the Havoc, as he’s put up 20 goals and 36 assists for 56 points. He’s added three goals and two assists for five points in 11 playoff games. Last season, he led all Havoc defensemen in goals (12). If he dresses for the Knight Monsters this weekend, he will be the ninth different defenseman to dress for the team this season.
McCabe’s Career Stats
Prior to going pro, McCabe spent three years in juniors, including his first two seasons in the CCHL with the Ottawa Jr. Senators. In 106 games with the Junior Senators, he put up 12 goals and 26 assists for 38 points. He would add eight assists in 25 playoff games, and Ottawa won a CCHL Championship in 2018. During his final year in juniors, he put up two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 32 games in the NAHL with the New Jersey Junior Titans.
Once he finished up his junior career, McCabe took the NCAA route, spending three seasons at SUNY-Fredonia. In 68 games with the Blue Devils, he put up five goals and 14 assists for 19 points. In his last two seasons at SUNY-Fredonia, he led all Blue Devil defensemen in PIMs. During his last season, he led all defensemen in goals (2), assists (5), and points (7) as well.
